Massage Therapy and Chronic Pain Relief - According to the Journal Age and Ageing, massage therapy has been demonstrated to help treat chronic pain, particularly in joints, such as the shoulder or knee, while also improving stability and posture. “[This study] suggests that regular massage may produce physiological changes that contribute to improved balance and postural control,” says Jo Ellen Sefton, Director of the Neuromechanics Research Laboratory at Auburn University. “This may be a way to decrease falls in older adults.”

Here is a group photo of this weekend's Ashiatsu Training in Renton. Students from as far away as Detroit attended this Training. A big thank you to Pilar & Nancy, Deepfeet.com Ashiatsu Instructors, for making this training happen and to the students for their patience with me as I learn how to be an instructor of this complex modality!

Here’s a shot I took at the Barefoot Basics Training on Capitol Hill this weekend. Nancy DeLong, my Ashiatsu Instructor (and owner of the Deepfeet Ashiatsu franchise), and Instructor-in-training Natalie Petersen traveled up from Portland to our fair city! I hosted them and joined the training as an assistant. Now 10 more massage therapists have been trained in the basics of Ashiatsu massage!

Thank you, Alice Stuart! Part of how I knew I could do whatever I wanted with my life, like be a professional artist (did it) or run my own massage business (doing it) was because I had such great examples of other women who had lived their dreams, like my friend’s mom (and my teen hero), the legendary folk singer and band leader Alice Stuart. On June 17th, Alice is celebrating her 75th Birthday by performing at the Triple Door in downtown Seattle; but before her performance Alice is coming to see me at A Touch of Red for a massage!
There are still a few tickets left for this amazing artist’s show https://tickets.thetripledoor.net/e... or go to http://www.alicestuart.com/media for more about Alice. It's a great read. She's the woman who paved the way for Bonnie Raitt, toured Europe with Van Morrison, played with Frank Zappa, is good friends with Huey Lewis...and also by her great example influenced me.
This is the web site of Alice Stuart, with samples of her music in .mp3 format, contact information and her playing schedule.

Allergy season is in full bloom and while it is beautiful, it is also a difficult time for those of us that are pollen challenged.
Lucky me, I own a designer microfiber Vogmask that matches the garden! -Thank you to Colleen P for taking this fun photo!
